"Economic Integration and Achievement Transformation of Rock Mechanics for Young Workers" Young Scientist Salon held in Beijing

On October 9-10, 2020, as one of the series of activities of the China Science and Technology Summit, the 22nd Young Scientist Salon, themed "Economic Integration and Achievement Transformation of Rock Mechanics for Young Workers", was successfully held at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. 

This Salon was hosted by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), and jointly hosted by 9 entities including the Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering (CSRME) and Tsinghua University. More than 50 experts participated in this  salon  on  the scene, and the total number of online participants exceeded 40,000. Mechanics and Rock Engineering, Mr. Runhua Lin, the Vice Director of the Academic Department of the CAST, and Academician Xia-Ting Feng, the President of the CSRME attended the Salon.

Professor Xia-Ting Feng made an opening speech and gave a keynote speech on "Rock Mechanics and Artificial Intelligence". He pointed out that this Young Scientist Salon focused on economic integration and achievement transformation, which is a timely activity in the current complex international situation. He stressed that there were many "Neck clamp" techniques in rock mechanics. He hoped that Chinese young scientists will make efforts for solving

these problems. He also expected that during two-day salon, young scientists can review and conclude the latest research progress and results, systematically consider the future problems in rock mechanics and rock engineering and strengthen talent training. 

In this salon, 8 senior scholars gave keynote speeches, and more than 20 young scholars gave special presentations. In  addition, two focused discussions are scheduled for constructions of  Sichuan-Tibet Railway, Xiong'an New Area, Wudongde Hydropower Station, and unconventional energy development and other Major National Projects. Four sessions were set up including intelligent construction, geotechnical engineering equipment, geotechnical engineering software, and national strategy service. These discussions condensed key scientific and technological problems in geotechnical engineering equipment, software, and intelligence, and also formed forward-looking and constructive opinions and suggestions. These suggestions will be submitted to the China Association for Science and Technology as a decision-making consultation report.
