2021 China (Shanghai) International Tunnel Engineering Seminar

On April 18-19, 2021, the 2021 China (Shanghai) International Tunnel Engineering Seminar was held in Shanghai. This Seminar was jointly hosted by Municipal Engineering Branch of Chinese Civil Engineering Society, Tunnel and Underground Engineering Branch of China Civil Engineering Society, Tunnel Digging Engineering Application Branch of CSRME, and Shanghai Society of Civil Engineering. This Seminar was co-organized by six institutions including Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Corporation, and so on.

Six Chinese and foreign academicians from 7 countries and more than 600 industry professionals attended the Seminar through online and offline mode, and more than 2 million people watched the live streaming of the Seminar simultaneously. 

On April 18, the academicians: Qi Qihu, Sun Jun, Liang Wenhao, Ding Lieyun, Chen Xiangsheng, and the professors: Yan Jinxiu and Yang Xiaojie attended the opening ceremony. The seminar set up a theme forum for exploring the future of underground space and city, with the theme of "Challenge and innovation of tunnel engineering in a complex urban environment". 

On April 19, six theme forums were set up, including the large-diameter shield tunnel building key technology, rail transit and underground space development and construction technology, intelligent and refined tunnel construction technology, diverse tunnel construction technology, design and innovation of underground engineering equipment, smart operation and management of urban infrastructure throughout the life cycle. The experts from all over the world discussed the most forward, popular and core issues on tunnel construction and underground space development.

On April 20, the participants were organized to visit the Suzhou River Deep Tunnel for Water Draining and Regulation, the Traffic Connections between Shanghai Downtown and Airport, and Shield Control Center.
