From May 14 to 16, 2021, the 17th National Conference on Rock Dynamics and High-level Academic Forum was successfully held in Xuzhou City, with the theme of "Rock Dynamics and Deep Underground Engineering". The conference was jointly hosted by China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT) and Rock Dynamics Professional Committee of CSRME. It was co-organized by the State Key Laboratory for Geomechanics and Deep Underground Engineering and State Key Laboratory of Coal Resources and Safe Mining (CUMT), and jointly supported by the State Key Laboratory of Rock and Soil Mechanics and Engineering, Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Journal Center of CUMT, and other institutions. More than 600 experts, technicians, and graduate students from more than 120 universities, research institutes and enterprises, and public institutions attended this Conference.

The conference set up one main venue and five sub-venues. 14 famous scholars were invited to deliver key-note lectures, including Professor Li Shucai (the vice president of Shandong University), Professor Li Haibo (Wuhan Branch of Chinese Academy of Sciences), Professor Xu Xiwei (president of National Institute of Natural Disaster Prevention and Control), and Professor Li Jianchun (Southeast University).

The experts and scholars from different colleges and research institutes across the country made 64 sub-venue reports. 25 reports by graduate students were also given in graduate forum during the conference. The report contents mainly covered the leading scientific and technological problems in theoretical innovation and engineering practice of rock dynamics. The latest progress and research results were presented, including new technical methods of dynamic rock mechanics testing, dynamic response of rock mass engineering, dynamic disaster prevention, and the mechanisms of rock breakage by blasting, mechanical tooth or microwave, as well as rock damage and fracture mechanism.
