ARMS11--The 11th Asian Rock Mechanics Symposium Held in Beijing, China

The 11th Asian Rock Mechanics Symposium--ARMS11, was grandly held in Beijing on October 22-24, 2021. The conference is sponsored by ISRM, organized as an ISRM regional conference by the Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering (CSRME), the ISRM National Group of China (ISRM NG China). The theme of the conference is "Opportunities and Challenges in Rock Mechanics and Engineering".
The opening ceremony was hosted by Prof. Xia-Ting Feng, co-chair of ARMS11 and president of CSRME. Prof. Manchao He, co-chair of ARMS11 and president of CSRME, made an opening speech. In his speech, Prof. He extended warm welcome to all the guests participating in ARMS11. Prof. Resat Ulusay, ISRM President, and Prof. Suseno Kramadibrata, ISRM Vice president for Asia, addressed the conference via video respectively. They expressed their congratulations to the CSRME, the ISRM National Group of China, for the successfully holding of ARMS11 as scheduled and wished ARMS11 a successful, fruitful and enjoyable conference. Mr. Zhaoping Lv, the secretariat secretary of the China Association for Science and Technology, also addressed the conference and he wished that the guests and representatives participating in the conference will learn from each other and improve together, deepen substantive innovation cooperation, and work together to make practical contributions to science and technology to support the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind.

There are many other distinguished guests were invited to attend the opening ceremony, including Prof. Qiang Yang, ISRM Vice President at large; Prof. Xibing Li, Vice President of ISRM NG China; Prof. Hongpu Kang, Prof. Yangsheng Zhao and Prof. Shucai Li, Vice-Presidents of CSRME; Prof. Fawu Wang, President of ICGdR; Prof. Faquan Wu, Vice President of IAEG.
The ARMS11 conference was held both offline and online. Nearly 800 representatives participated in the offline conference and more than 53,000 online. Seven training courses were held as a part of the conference. Twenty internationally renowned experts in the field of rock mechanics and engineering were invited to give Keynote lectures at the plenary sessions held on October 22 and 24. On October 23, 31 parallel sessions were held including 16 offline sessions and 15 online sessions. There were totally 314 oral presentations given at offline parallel technical sessions and 211 oral presentations given at online technical sessions. The Technological Innovation Industrial Exhibition was also held during the conference with more than 160 exhibitors. On October 24, the ARMS11 conference was successfully closed.
