2021 CSRME Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Review Meeting was successfully concluded

The 12th CSRME Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Review Meeting was held in Beijing on September 17, 2021.

The CSRME had received a total of 23 doctoral dissertations, after the review made by experts online, there are 20 doctoral dissertations have been selected to access the final evaluation. The review committee is composed of 9 authoritative experts in the field of rock mechanics and engineering, including Academician Kang Hongpu and Zhao Yangsheng. The review of the Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award for 2021 has undergone major reforms in four aspects compared to the past. 1. Standardization: expand the peer review system, standardize the review procedures, refine the grouping, review and scoring rules; 2. Specialization: the CSRME with its own characteristics, that the rock mechanics and engineering play a leading role, and has the interdisciplinarity: tunneling, civil engineering, mining, geology; 3. Internationalization: introduce the review rules of Rocha Medal, comprehensively consider over the international influence and prospects with international standards; 4. Institutionalization: the expert jury shall be mainly composed of academicians and senior experts, adhering to the idea of cultivating young experts, all members of the jury will be randomly selected from the CSRME's think tank.

10 excellent papers and 2 ROCHA Medal candidate papers were finally selected after the applicant's defense, expert review, and voting.

The CSRME Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award is a sub-award of the "CSRME Science and Technology Award". Its selection scope: the doctoral dissertations in the field of rock mechanics and engineering; and the purpose of its establishment: encouraging Ph.D. graduate students in the field of rock mechanics and engineering to create high-level theoretical research and obtain engineering application results, and stimulating the innovative spirit of young scholars.
