2021 Meeting of ISRM Commission on Rockburst, and Symposium on Rockburst in Deep Tunnels was successfully held

The annual meeting of the ISRM Commission on Rockburst, namely the Symposium on Rockburst in Deep Tunnels was successfully held online on October 12, 2021. The attendees include Professor Resat Ulusay-ISRM President, Professor Suseno Kramadibrata-ISRM Vice President for Asia, Academician Manchao He -President of Commission on Rockburst and CSRME President, Engineer William Joughin-Vice President of Commission on Rockburst, Professor Chunan Tang from Dalian University of Technology, Professor Andrian Batugin from National University of Science and Technology (Russia), Professor Massimo Coli from University of Florence (Italy), Professor Michel Van Sint Jan from Catholic University of Chile, Professor Murat Karakus from University of Adelaide (Australia), Engineer Víctor Raúl Góngora Pérez from SRK Company in Peru , Dr. Chengguo Zhang from University of New South Wales (Sydney, Australia), Associate Professor Wen Nie from Hebei University of Technology, Professor Dejian Li and Associate Professor Dongqiao Liu from China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing), invited report expert Dr. Lindsay Linzer, a geophysicist from South Africa SRK Company, Professor Johan Wesseloo from Australian Center for Geomechanics, as well as Ms Wenli Xu and Na Zhang from ISRM National Group of China, and the important participants of the major special project-Deep-Buried Tunnels for Sichuan-Tibet Railway (National Natural Science Foundation of China), more than 40 scholars in total. The meeting was chaired by Academician Manchao He-President of Commission on Rockburst.
Firstly, Professor Resat Ulusay, the ISRM President made an opening speech, and then Academician Manchao He gave a report on the work of the ISRM Commission on Rockburst in 2021 and its plan for the future.
In the second session of the meeting, there were five rockburst experts from domestic and foreign countries had made their academic reports. Professor Coli Massimo gave a report titled "Rockburst Phenomenas in the Maddalena Pilot Tunnel, ITALY", Dr. Lindsay Linzer gave a report titled "Complexity of underground mining seismic sources", Professor Johan Wesseloo gave a report titled "Seismic Risk Management Practi" Dr. Gianpino Walter BIANCHI gave a report titled "Activity Related to Rockburst", and Academician Manchao He gave a report titled "Rockburst Mechanism and Control in China".
At the end of the meeting, Professor Suseno Kramadibrata, ISRM Vice President for Asia, made a summary speech. He expressed his sincere gratitude and blessings to all attendees. The speeches of the experts have improved people's understanding of rock mechanics, especially rockburst disasters. ISRM will continue to make positive contributions to the safe construction of underground engineering around the world.
