The Second Meeting between the Presidents of the CSRME and the ARMA was held to celebrate Chinese New Year

On the morning of January 30, 2022 (Beijing Time), Academician Manchao He, the President of the Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering (CSRME), and Dr. Gang Han, the President of the American Rock Mechanics Association (ARMA) jointly held the second presidential meeting. President Manchao He, gave New Year's greetings to the President of the ARMA and the American peers, and extended his warm wishes for the Year of the Tiger. President Gang Han, paid New Year's greetings and best wishes to the President of the CSRME and the Chinsese peers.
In-depth exchanges and discussions were conducted and focused on two topics at the meeting.
The first topic is to publish a new academic journal named Rock Mechanics Bulletin (RMB) jointly with the ARMA and the International Consortium on Geo-disaster Reduction (ICGdR). President Manchao He introduced the latest progress in journal preparation and the specific proposal to to cooperate with the ARMA and the ICGdR to run the journal, and pointed out that the goal is to provide a high-level journal of rock mechanics and a platform for outstanding international scholars to publish their achievements. President Gang Han said that this is a very timely meeting, and he will initiate discussions on the proposal at the upcoming Meeingt of ARMA Board of Directors in Spring and actively promote the cooperation.
The second topic is to jointly launch an International Comparative Research Program on Rock Mechanics. President Manchao He introduced in detail the idea of an International Comparative Research Program with the theme of "Cross-fault Measurement for Earthquake Prediction" to be jointly launched by the CSRME and the ICGdR, and sincerely invited the ARMA to join this international program. President Manchao He called on the United States and the other major countries in Rock Mechanics to deeply participate in the international comparative research program, form an international cooperation research team to tackle key problems, and hold seminars on major scientific issues of common concern. President Gang Han expressed his high recognition and praise for the conception of the international comparative research program, pointing out that "the strategic vision of launching the big scientific project is admirable, which is a long-term consideration that goes beyond national borders and academic societies, and would bring benefits to all mankind". He had an in-depth discussion with President He on jointly carrying out the international comparative research program, and reached a preliminary consensus on cooperation.
In addition, the Presidents also had an in-depth discussion on the academic brand conferences held by the CSRME and the ARMA. Pesident Manchao He invited the ARMA to be one of the organizers of the China Rock, the CSRME brand conference. The two sides believe that under the normalization of the Covid-19 epidemic prevention and control, academic conferences can be held in both online and offline modes. The CSRME and the ARMA will support each other's international academic conferences, learn from each other, develop together, and jointly hold the China Rock and the ARMA Symposium.
