On August 16, 2022, the International Consortium on Geo-disaster Reduction (ICGdR) held the second council representative meeting through video conferencing. More than 50 people including the ICGdR's president, directors of various committees, members, and secretariat attended the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Professor Fawu Wang, the president of the ICGdR.
At this meeting, all ICGdR representatives reviewed and approved by voting the list of ICGdR 2022-2023 management members (please visit the ICGdR website: http://icgdr.com/ for details). Among them, Academician Manchao He, the president of the CSRME, was successfully elected as the Vice President from Experts, one of the five vice presidents of the ICGdR (2022-2023).
ICGdR was established in 2013, it is a social group voluntarily formed by units, groups, and science/disaster management personnel engaged in geological disaster mechanism analysis, forecasting and management, and other related industries around the world. Since its establishment, ICGdR has been committed to the prevention and reduction of global geological disasters and contributed to the safety of the natural world and human society.
Academician Manchao He is mainly engaged in theoretical and technical research on the control of large deformation of mine rock, he proposed the theoretical system of "slow deformation" and "sudden deformation" for large deformation disasters, and developed several experimental systems for large deformation disaster mechanisms. The innovative NPR (negative Poisson's ratio) constant resistance and large deformation anchor bolts (cable) have been successfully applied to engineering practice, and achieved huge economic and social benefits. Before then, Academician Manchao He, on behalf of Chinese scholars, proposed the "International Correlation Research Program: Cross-Fault Measurement for Earthquake Prediction" at the first council representative meeting of the ICGdR in 2022. This major scientific initiative was formally approved on April 1, 2022 after the rigorous demonstration by 56 experts from ten countries, becoming the first international Correlation Research Program officially set up by the ICGdR. His successful election will further deepen international and regional exchanges and cooperation, accelerate the implementation of this International Correlation Research Program, and make greater contributions to the development of rock mechanics and engineering in China and the world.
