"Crane's Wing", a congratulatory letter from President Xi Jinping

The first batch of units of the Baihetan Hydropower Station on the Jinsha River was safely and punctually put into operation on June 28. Chinese President Xi Jinping, also the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, the Chairman of the Central Military Commission, sent a congratulatory letter to express his warm congratulations.
 In his congratulatory letter, President Xi Jinping pointed out that Baihetan Hydropower Station was a major national project implementing "West-to-East Power Transmission", and currently was the world's largest hydropower project under construction with the most technical difficulties. The world's largest single-machine capacity of one million kilowatts of hydroelectric generating units had achieved a major breakthrough in Chinese high-end equipment manufacturing. With the spirit of striving for perfection, scaling new heights and selfless dedication, all the constructors and other parties have worked together to overcome difficulties and contributed to the construction of major national projects. This fully demonstrated that socialism and the new era had been achieved through hard work. 


President Xi Jinping called on all builders and all parties to promote the follow-up work of the Baihetan hydropower station in a coordinated way, making greater contributions to achieving the goal of carbon peak and carbon neutral, and promoting the comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development.

Baihetan Hydropower Station was located on the Jinsha River. It was developed and constructed by China Three Gorges Corporation with a total investment of 220 billion Yuan and a total installed capacity of 16 million kilowatts. A total of 16 global stand-alone units independently developed by China have been installed. Hydrogenerators had the maximum capacity of one million kilowatts. The main construction of the power station was fully started in July 2017. The first two units have been put into operation for power generation, and all units will start to generate electricity in July 2022. Once completed and put into operation, the power station will become the second-largest hydropower station in the world only after the Three Gorges Project.
